For the summer, the artist collective Art Happens Here (AHH) will be in residence with Art Licks in Bransdale on the North York Moors. The artists are: Sue Mann, Charlotte Salt, Sally Taylor, Lyn Wait, and Janet White.
The artists will explore and develop new work as they engage with the site and surrounding area of Bransdale, alongside the text The Green Child by Herbert Read.
The Green Child is the only completed novel by the English critic Herbert Read. Written in 1934, the book has many autobiographical elements. The son of a farmer, Read was born in Ryedale and one of his favourite walks was along the course of Hodge Beck: the inspiration for the stream followed by the main protagonist in the book that led to a mill. Bransdale Mill is the inspiration for this "spiritual hermitage" through which Hodge Beck runs.
AHH is a studio collective of artists, based in Malton, North Yorkshire.
This residency is support with funding from Arts Council England.
